When I began thinking of ways to use Blue Waters, one idea that came to mind was a library for my husband, Thor's, PhD books on Western and Japanese Art Theory and Aesthetics as well as Japanese Bonsai and Landscaping Design and Theory: the papers and references he had amassed before discovering he was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, which we were in the process of packing away. Though hopeful of finalising his thesis in the months remaining to him, the effects of the chemotherapy and the advance of the cancer forced him to accept this would not be possible.
 

Whilst my sons and I hope to publish his work eventually, I realised this would not happen if it all went into storage - boxes and boxes of photos left unsorted since our wedding in 1985 are a constant reminder of our procrastination! It occurred to me that, if I was going to need to store them all in a container anyway, I could consider building a container library. As I was using containers to move much of my belongings from Canberra, I started with a 40 footer, getting the bulk of my stuff to the coast as cheaply as possible.

 

I developed an idea for stacking some 40ft containers together, with a sky-lit roof and solar panels and a space to display much of Thor's eclectic memorabilia and some of his bonsai. As I started to research on the internet, I found myself becoming addicted to Tiny Houses and Container Houses on Pintrest. There I also found the perfect design for the library, only needing two 40ft and two 20ft containers.

Below, I will be posting the progress of the Library which, at this stage, has shifted in priority to the end of the list at this point in time. However, ideas don't stop filling my head just because I haven't time to realise them so I will use this space as a scratch pad.
